Solana glossary

We wrote this glossary because the docs are scattered. Orca calls it a tick array, Meteora calls it a bin array, Raydium calls it neither, and the official Solana docs assume you already know what an Anchor discriminator is. If you're shipping a bot, decoding a Geyser stream, or trying to figure out why your swap landed at a worse price than you quoted, the term you're looking for probably lives below. Each entry has a one-paragraph definition, a longer explanation, real program IDs, and a link to where the concept matters in production.

Twenty terms across DEX accounts, validator infrastructure, transaction primitives, and the account model. Last reviewed April 2026.

DEX & liquidity

Tick Array
An 88-tick storage account in Orca Whirlpools that holds the liquidity bitmap a swap walks across.
Bin Array
A Meteora DLMM account holding 70 price bins, each storing reserves and liquidity for one discrete price step.
Bonding Curve
A deterministic price function used by Pump.fun and other launchpads to price tokens against virtual reserves.
Sqrt Price
The square root of price stored as a Q64.64 fixed-point number, the math primitive every CLMM uses.
LP Token
A fungible SPL token that represents your share of an AMM pool, mintable on deposit and burnable on withdraw.
Slippage
The gap between the price you quoted and the price you actually got, set as a tolerance on every swap instruction.
Position NFT
The non-fungible token that represents ownership of a CLMM liquidity position with its own price range.
LB Pair
The Meteora DLMM liquidity-book account that stores the active bin, fee parameters, and the pool reserves.
Whirlpool
The Orca CLMM pool account that stores the active sqrt-price, current liquidity, fee tier, and tick spacing.
CLMM
Concentrated Liquidity Market Maker. LPs choose a price range, and capital only earns fees inside that range.
DLMM
Dynamic Liquidity Market Maker. Meteora’s discrete-bin model with zero slippage inside the active bin.

Validator & infra

Geyser Plugin
A shared library a Solana validator loads to push account, slot, and transaction updates into your own pipeline.
Yellowstone gRPC
The Triton-built Geyser plugin that exposes a gRPC stream of accounts, transactions, and slots over the wire.

Transaction primitives

Durable Nonce
A System Program nonce account that lets a transaction stay valid past the 150-slot recent-blockhash window.
Compute Unit Budget
The CU limit and price you set with the ComputeBudget program to control how much work and priority fee a transaction uses.
Jito Tip
A SOL transfer to a Jito tip account that pays the block engine to include and order your transaction bundle.
Processed, Confirmed, Finalized
The three Solana commitment levels, ordered from "this validator saw it" to "supermajority will not roll it back."

Account model

IDL
An Anchor Interface Definition Language file. JSON describing a program’s instructions, accounts, and event layouts.
Anchor Discriminator
The 8-byte SHA-256 prefix Anchor prepends to every instruction and account so a program can route a call.
Program Derived Address
A PDA. An off-curve address derived from seeds plus a program ID, signable only by the program that owns it.

How to use this glossary

Start with the category that matches what you're building. If you're writing a market-making bot on Orca or Meteora, the DEX section covers the accounts you'll be reading every block. If you're running a validator or wiring up a streaming pipeline, the validator and infra section walks through Geyser plugins and Yellowstone gRPC. The transaction primitives section is for anyone trying to land transactions reliably during congestion. The account model section covers the Anchor and PDA concepts you'll hit the first time you decode an instruction by hand.

Each page is short on purpose. We picked the 20 terms developers actually ask us about in support tickets, not the 200 someone might list for completeness. If a term you needed isn't here, email us and we'll add it.

Want to skip the decoding work entirely? Our Enhanced Streams deliver every event from these programs already parsed, and our gRPC nodes expose Yellowstone directly if you want to roll your own decoder.
